I'm back from my trip! I had such a fun time that I really didn't want to come back! Right now I'm suffering from the "after-holiday-back-to-normal-routine-life" syndrome! I can't wait to go to Bangkok again!
In case you are wondering, yes, this can be considered my virgin trip because my dad is extremely protective of his little princess. (Actually two years back I went to KL with my hall friends and I was only allowed to go after much persuasion.) So well, because this time round I went with my mentor, so there was no problem at all!
Anyway I was in Bangkok a grand total of 2 hours more than my mentor cos we were on different flight. Her ticket was free cos of her frequent flyer miles and I felt that paying an additional of almost $100+ just to be on the same flight as her is too much, so I opted for a cheaper airline. (Though I sort of regretted this when we were heading back to sg because I so wanted to be with her!)
We spent the first day sight-seeing - went to the
Grand Palace and
Wat Phra Kaew (Emerable Buddha). It was an extremly sweltering day and we had to be in jeans because of the strict dress code! After that my mentor remotely tried to track the route to this restaurant known as the
Patravadi Theatre which turned out to be a damn cool place! I fell in love with the decor instantly and the food there was fantastic! The watermelon freeze and the deep fried pork with garlic and pepper are the must-trys!
After that we shopped around the
Discovery Centre and
MBK, which is somewhat like a combination of Lucky Plaza and Far East Plaze. In fact, you'll find lots of similarities between the goods they sell, but at half the price! Anyway I did manicure there cos it was damn cheap and worthwhile.
So basically after every shopping trip, I would faithfully make my way to the massage parlor where it would cost me about $11 to get a one hour foot massage - a very good bargain! Plus I did my pedicure there too for a fraction of what it would have cost in sg! I feel totally like a royalty!
The second and third day were spent shopping at
Chinatown and the renowed shopping heaven -
Chatuchak (also known as JJ). I was in a state of shock when I saw how huge was the entire chatuchak! It's really beyond words! They have everything there - from flip flops to pets, to household stuff, to clothes, to accessories etc etc. You name it, they have it! I was totally mesmerized, but at some point I was kind of stressed up about what to buy back for my friends, cos I didn't want to get them cliche gifts, so in the end I just bought for those whom I happened to chance upon, instead of specifically hunting for gifts. I decided that it was my holiday and I should be spending money on myself!
Just before I hop onto my flight I actually made a trip to the
Pratunam market where there are many many shops too, but I didn't enjoy it as much as shopping in Chinatown or JJ cos I had cramps!
One good place to dine is at
Food Loft at Siam Central. It's the marche-styled dining concept, except that it's much cheaper and you'll get better quality food. I have kappa maki (jap cucumber sushi) and tempura - best that I ever had - by Thai chefs! The decor's pretty cool too - the setting is quite posh, yet casual, makes you feel at ease!
Anyway I took many many photos (180 of them to be exact) so most probably I'll be posting it on webshot. Would post the address here when it's ready! Oh yah I think I probably have a very Asian face because almost all salesgirls spoke to me in Thai! I think they clearly thought I'm one of them! It's being tested and proven! Not only the salesgirls, but also the air stewardesses! Talk about being able to blend in.. Ha!
I really can't wait to go there again! There are so many places that I didn't managed to go to and so many things I can't get enough of! Now I can truly comprehend many of my friends' infactuation with Bangkok! I have been drawn into their league!
